Lips Permanent Makeup

Aftercare Instructions

Healing stages, do's, and don'ts

Lip procedures require attentive aftercare because the lips are constantly in motion and exposed to food, drink, and moisture. Proper care during the healing period ensures even color retention and a smooth, defined result.

Healing Stages

Days 1–3

Lips will appear very bold and swollen. This is normal. Keep lips moisturized with aftercare ointment and avoid eating foods that require wide mouth opening.

Days 4–7

Lips begin to peel and flake. The color will fade dramatically — this is part of the healing process.

Days 8–14

Peeling completes. Lips may look very light or uneven. The pigment is still settling beneath the surface.

Weeks 3–6

True healed color emerges. Touch-up appointment at 4–6 weeks refines shape and adds density.

Do

  • Keep lips moisturized with the provided aftercare ointment throughout the healing period
  • Drink through a straw for the first 3–5 days to minimize contact with liquids
  • Eat soft foods and cut food into small pieces to reduce lip stretching
  • Apply SPF lip balm once fully healed to protect pigment from UV fading
  • Schedule your touch-up at 4–6 weeks for shape refinement and color density

Don't

  • Apply lipstick, lip gloss, or lip liner during the healing period
  • Eat spicy, salty, or acidic foods for the first week — they irritate healing tissue
  • Pick or peel flaking skin from the lips
  • Kiss or engage in activities that create friction on the lips during healing
  • Use whitening toothpaste near the lip border — it can bleach pigment

If you have a history of cold sores (HSV-1), lip procedures can trigger an outbreak. Consult your physician about antiviral medication (such as Valtrex) to take before and after your appointment.
